Independent carbon asset management, from the owner's side.
Carbon Matrix works from the carbon owner's side of the table. We consolidate project information, unit positions, vintages, contracts, ownership records, technical milestones and market evidence into one clear portfolio view.
Existing project developers, forest managers, peatland specialists, verifiers and professional advisers can continue in their respective roles. Carbon Matrix provides the independent oversight that helps the owner understand the complete asset position and make informed commercial decisions.

- Issued, pending, sold, transferred, retired and retained units held in one portfolio record.
- Milestones
- Validation, monitoring and verification status, responsibilities and key dates held in view.
- Obligations

From fragmented information to a managed carbon portfolio.
Carbon projects often remain spread across registry accounts, technical reports, contracts, spreadsheets, advisers and email correspondence. This makes it difficult for owners to establish their true unit position, obligations, risks and available market value.
Before Carbon Matrix
- Project information split across advisers, folders and registry records
- Unclear sold, retained, transferred and available unit position
- Contractual obligations difficult to compare
- Milestones and responsibilities buried in reports and correspondence
- Carbon value based on limited or selective market evidence
- Sales dependent on one approach or one broker's opinion
After Carbon Matrix
- Single owner-side carbon asset portfolio
- Clear PIU, WCU and PCU position by project and vintage
- Sold, retained, transferred and available units distinguished
- Contracts, obligations, milestones and responsibilities held in view
- Indicative valuation supported by available market evidence
- Structured price discovery and controlled buyer engagement
- Clear reporting for owners, boards, investors and professional advisers
One view of what you own, what is due and where value may lie.
Carbon Matrix brings project records, unit positions, vintages, contracts, milestone dates, assurance information, indicative valuation and market readiness into one managed owner-side portfolio.
The same structured approach can also provide buyers with a clear portfolio view of purchased PIUs, WCUs and PCUs — from acquisition and expected delivery through verification, transfer and retirement.

A service shaped around the owner and the portfolio.
Carbon Matrix engagements reflect the scale, complexity and commercial objectives of the carbon assets being managed.
An individual woodland owner may require an initial carbon asset review and periodic updates. An estate or family office may require continuing portfolio oversight. An institutional owner may require structured data, governance reporting, valuation evidence and transaction support across multiple projects.
The service is designed around the information and decisions the owner needs — not around duplicating the work of existing technical providers.
Technical, legal, registry, validation, verification, insurance and specialist costs remain separate unless expressly included within an agreed scope.
Focused on the owner's overall commercial outcome.
Carbon Matrix is not designed simply to add another fee to a carbon transaction. It is designed to improve the owner's position before important decisions are made.
Value may be protected or created through better records, clearer obligations, earlier identification of risk, stronger market preparation, improved timing and more disciplined price discovery.
The best outcome is not always the highest headline price. Contract terms, delivery exposure, payment timing, buyer quality, claims, future flexibility and retained upside all matter.
The objective is a better-informed decision and a stronger net result for the owner.

Bringing structure to an opaque UK carbon market.
UK woodland and peatland carbon is largely traded through private approaches and bilateral negotiations. Comparable evidence is limited, unit characteristics differ and owners may have little means of knowing whether an offer represents fair value.
When an owner chooses to engage the market, Carbon Matrix prepares the asset for structured price discovery and controlled access to suitable demand.
Understand the asset
Confirm the project, unit type, vintage, quantity, ownership position, contractual restrictions, verification status and available evidence.
Assess market readiness
Identify information gaps, risks, timing considerations and the factors likely to influence demand and value.
Test qualified demand
Approach suitable buyers through a controlled process shaped around the owner's objectives rather than relying only on one unsolicited offer.
Compare the complete terms
Record price, payment timing, contractual obligations, delivery exposure, claims boundaries and other material conditions.
Carbon Matrix provides indicative market evidence and structured price discovery. Indicative values are not guaranteed prices, investment advice or offers to buy or sell.

Clarity before and after you buy.
Carbon Matrix helps businesses understand and access credible UK woodland and peatland carbon opportunities. Our role can continue after purchase, giving the buyer a clear record of what has been acquired, what remains due, what has been verified and what has ultimately been retired.
This is particularly important for Pending Issuance Units, which represent expected future delivery and may require monitoring over many years before they become verified Woodland Carbon Units or Peatland Carbon Units.
Purchase clarity
Record the project, code, unit type, vintage, quantity, serial range, purchase price, seller and material contract terms.
Delivery monitoring
Track expected verification dates, delivery obligations, project progress, delays, shortfalls, substitutions and other material risks.
Conversion and transfer
Monitor the conversion of PIUs into verified WCUs or PCUs and maintain evidence of ownership and registry transfer.
Retirement and claims
Record which units have been retired, when they were retired, the named beneficiary, the relevant reporting period and the evidence supporting any associated claim.
Portfolio reporting
Provide a consolidated view for management, boards, accountants, sustainability advisers and other professional teams.
Buying carbon is only the beginning. Carbon Matrix helps the buyer understand and manage the position through to verified delivery and retirement.
Independent. Owner-aligned. Provider-neutral.
Carbon Matrix is not tied to a single project developer, forest manager, peatland contractor, verifier, broker or buyer.
We can work alongside the owner's existing professional team while maintaining an independent portfolio view of the carbon assets, obligations, milestones and commercial position.
Carbon Matrix does not need to replace the technical providers responsible for designing, validating, monitoring or verifying a project. Our role is to give the owner clarity across the complete asset and support better-informed decisions.
Where Carbon Matrix supports buyers, the scope and role are clearly defined. Seller representation, buyer procurement and continuing buyer-side oversight are kept transparent, with potential transaction conflicts identified and managed.
The technical provider delivers its work. Carbon Matrix helps the owner understand the whole position.

Independent market intelligence for UK nature-based carbon.
Better evidence today. More credible market benchmarking over time.
UK woodland and peatland carbon remains an immature and opaque market. Headline prices alone provide limited insight because value can vary according to unit type, vintage, verification status, transaction size, project quality, location, co-benefits, contract terms and buyer requirements.
Carbon Matrix intends to build a structured evidence base from owner portfolios, buyer feedback, market testing and completed transactions.
Over time, this may support clearer pricing ranges, median and quartile evidence, distinctions between PIUs, WCUs and PCUs, vintage and verification premiums, transaction volumes and demand trends.
The aim is not to promote selected headline prices. It is to help owners and buyers make decisions using clearer and more representative market evidence.
Buyer-side portfolio data can also help businesses understand historic purchase prices, future procurement exposure, vintage requirements and the balance between future and verified units.
The units we manage.
Future units and verified units require different evidence, monitoring, claims and transaction processes. Carbon Matrix keeps each position clear from ownership or purchase through to verification, transfer and retirement.

- PIU
- A PIU represents a future tonne of carbon expected from a validated woodland or peatland project. It is not a verified tonne and should not be treated as an immediate offset.
- WCU
- A WCU is a verified tonne of carbon dioxide equivalent sequestered by a UK woodland project under the Woodland Carbon Code.
- PCU
- A PCU is a verified tonne of carbon dioxide equivalent avoided or sequestered through a UK peatland restoration project under the Peatland Code.
